healthy lifestyles

Most people recognize how important healthy living is, but actually adopting a healthy lifestyle can feel like a chore. PATH’s Healthy Living programs help community members to incorporate healthful activities into their busy lives by making it easy and, dare we say, even fun. Instead of encouraging people to exercise, we coordinate a Sizzlin’ Summer Series to encourage people to join us on the Square for hula-hooping, juggling, Tai Chi, and more. With the help of our partners, we’ve also renovated old buildings and public spaces to create playgrounds and places for people to walk, jog, and bike. PATH is committed to introducing physical activities people can and want to do for a lifetime

healthy yancey

Since 1999, Healthy Yancey has built upon that rich heritage to make it easier for Yancey residents to realize their full health potential. There are big, systemic barriers that can prevent the more vulnerable members of our community from becoming and staying healthy. Because of our shared value of helping neighbors, we know our neighbor’s well being affects our own.

tennis and pickleball camps

We partner with a retired tennis professional to offer a free week-long summer tennis camp and pickleball camp to children in Yancey County. Children receive rackets to keep, t-shirts, and certificates of completion along with training from a professional.

summer food

Summer Food program is spearheaded by PATH. This collaborative effort provided 100 families with 600 food deliveries directly to their doorsteps. Recipient families all have children who benefit from the free/reduced lunch program at school or Head Start during the school months. An important resource considering that the poverty rate for children under 18 in Yancey County far exceeds the statewide rate. Learn more.

sizzlin’ summer series

Summer of 2016, PATH launched a program called The Sizzlin’ Summer Series, with the goal of increasing connections between neighbors and people, and increasing physical activity, while highlighting fun opportunities to play and be active in our community. This physical activity campaign was developed with the generous assistance of NC Population Health Improvement Partners, with evaluation support from NC Center for Health & Wellness at UNCA.
