Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 4 years of program management and administrative experience; or Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Must have experience in or be highly motivated to learn about substance use prevention.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and understanding of issues related and approaches to substance use prevention, complementary health modalities, community-based work, trauma and resilience, social determinants of health, and equity.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team-building skills required, along with cultural sensitivity and an interest in working with health care providers, staff, volunteers, community partners, and the community at large.

Position Description:

The Home Remedies Program is a local, collaborative effort to offer free resources for pain management, stress reduction, wellness, and resilience. This program is designed for anyone seeking alternatives to prescription medication, anyone with limited access to complementary health modalities, and anyone who has an interest in addressing their pain, stress, wellness, and/or resilience. The program content is primarily hosted through an online platform where participants can work through the self-paced course series, and also includes vouchers for individual treatment services, and community clinics (treatment delivered in a group setting free of charge).

The Home Remedies Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of programming and education for a wide variety of audiences in Yancey and Mitchell counties. The Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director, Substance Misuse Program Manager, Home Remedies Advisory Committee, and community partners to develop and coordinate initiatives. The individual is responsible for all coordination, planning, and logistical issues related to Home Remedies, as well as other duties as assigned. This position also supports administrative aspects of the Mitchell Yancey Substance Abuse Task Force – a coalition of local stakeholders focused on addressing issues related to substance use in Mitchell and Yancey counties via awareness, education, advocacy, and prevention.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Assume primary responsibility for coordinating the recording, direction, production, editing, and dissemination of Home Remedies information session videos, including scheduling instructors, coordinating with a contracted videographer, supporting the development of appropriate information session presentations, and managing the video editing process.
  • Collaborate with local complementary health modality providers to provide community clinic experiences for the residents of Mitchell and Yancey counties, where several providers offer treatment to the general community in a group setting, free of charge.
  • Perform the following PR activities: collaborate with other PATH staff to update program collateral materials; update the program website; develop social media content; write and submit information to local newspapers and radio station; and coordination and participation in “Community Close-Up” interviews with WKYK/WTOE.
  • Establish and manage the program’s online learning environment, including working with instructors to develop workshop descriptions and gathering and posting class reference materials.
  • Program administration including participant tracking, verification of voucher eligibility, and voucher distribution.
  • Perform the following data collection activities: work with PATH’s Data and Evaluation Coordinator and contracted evaluation professionals to determine data collection needs; incorporate data collection mechanisms into the online learning environment (participation data, feedback data, etc.); provide updates to PATH staff, the Home Remedies Advisory Committee, and grantors as required; provide input as needed for progress reports and data collection/analysis.
  • Coordinate Advisory Committee meetings: Work with PATH staff to create an agenda at least a week before each quarterly Advisory Committee meeting; during months that the Advisory Committee is not meeting, provide an email update to the Advisory Committee.
  • Provide direct support, in close collaboration with the Substance Misuse Program Manager, to the organization’s substance use efforts.
  • Participate in networking opportunities, meetings with partners/community members, and meetings with funders upon the request of PATH staff.
  • Provide occasional support for other programming, including the Burnsville Fit Families 5K, Sizzlin’ Summer Series, Toe River Racqueteers summer camp, Cougar Fit Club, Appalachian Youth to Youth, and Summer Food Program.

Additional Information:

This position has the flexibility for limited remote work, but regular in-person, site-based work is a requirement. Hours are somewhat flexible, mostly during standard business hours. In addition to travel within Mitchell and Yancey counties, this position also requires occasional travel within the state, and occasional evening, early morning, and/or weekend work. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted. Must be able to set up and clean up for activities and outreach events, including equipment such as tables, chairs, signs, and getting equipment to and from storage areas. Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check prior to start of position. In accordance with the duty of PATH to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards and uphold public health best-practices, PATH requires all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the first day of employment, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Compensation:

Compensation is $20 per hour, 30-40 hours per week.
