In April, members of Appalachian Youth to Youth took part in a Youth Leadership Summit in Hickory hosted by the NC Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust. Youth coalitions from all over the state were present, and were challenged to create an action plan to address the problem of opioid misuse in their communities.

MYSATF staff accept award from Josh Stein, NC Attorney General, on behalf of Appalachian Youth to Youth.

Appalachian Youth to Youth developed a plan for a social media education campaign focused on the dangers of opioids, with a goal of reaching at least 10,000 people. The youth created a video outlining their plans to educate the community as a means to kick-off their social media campaign. The Appalachian Youth to Youth media campaign was selected as a finalist in the Statewide Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Action Plan Challenge! Earlier this month, Terri Leiser (Youth Team Advisor) and Jeff Spargo (MYSATF Coordinator) attended the NC Coalition Summit in Raleigh to receive the award on behalf of Appalachian Youth to Youth. They were awarded $500 which will be used to support their work!
