This summer, the Toe River Racqueteers Tennis Camp provided FREE instruction, guidance, and fun to 47  local children interested in learning the game of tennis. Now in its 12th year of implementation, the camp was again taught by Michael Baldwin Sr., USPTA Master Professional and Founder of Tennis Insights who developed the program. Students and parents were delighted to have “Coach Mike” offering instruction, guidance, and fun again this year.

Specialized equipment was provided for the youngest players, including smaller and lighter rackets, a smaller court size, and slower and lower bouncing balls that helped elevate the level of fun and success. Each year, participants are able to build upon the essentials they have learned and increase their skills. Additionally, our “need a racquet get a racquet” program assured every player could have a racquet to take home.

A certificate of completion, a free t-shirt, and a free tennis racquet was provided to all participants, but more importantly, each camper left with a love for a new sport!  Encouraging lifelong physical activity is a priority for Partners Aligned Toward Health, and tennis is a perfect sport to begin young and play for a lifetime.

The camp was made possible this year by the generous sponsorship of WNC Bridge Foundation, AMY Wellness Foundation, and Toe River Health District, Thank you to all who provided funding, participated, volunteered, and cheered from the bleachers. With their support, we were able to provide a bit of normalcy to the campers during this crazy time!
