This summer was one for the books! The Sizzlin’ Summer Series achieved an exceptional milestone with a record-breaking turnout of over 3,000 participants – the highest number ever! The Sizzlin’ Summer Series, sponsored by Healthy Yancey and Partners Aligned Toward Health (PATH), was a chance for individuals of all ages and abilities to explore new experiences, connect with neighbors, and embrace an active lifestyle while having fun!
This year’s series was packed with a diverse range of fun, free activities to engage families across Yancey and neighboring counties. From conquering a rock climbing tower to dancing up a storm, relishing in theatrical and acrobatic performances, bouncing on inflatables, navigating a bike obstacle course, and unleashing creativity through painting, there was something for everyone. In addition to the fun-filled activities, the AMY Bookmobile made several appearances adding a literary dimension to the activities offered.
On the end-of-summer survey, 100% of survey respondents strongly agree the Sizzlin’ Summer Series helps create a sense of connection to the community and/or other attendees and 90% strongly agree the Sizzlin’ Summer Series helps them feel as though they are part of a vibrant, active community. Not only does the Series connect people and foster opportunities to be active, but participants support the local economy while they are in town. Of survey respondents, 80% visited a downtown business, merchant, or restaurant while in town for the Sizzlin’ Summer Series and half visited the Yancey Farmer’s Market.
